Old Edo castle, Tayasu gate spring view

A young lady just attended her university graduation ceremony at the Nippon Budokan in Kitanomaru Park. A great change in condition for japanese women compared to the time of Edo era.

March is the traditional month for all university graduations in Japan. This is a big day for all students at Nihon Daigaku, the biggest university in Tokyo and in Japan with almost 70 000 undergraduate students. The traditional graduation dress for women in Japan consist of the kimono over which an hakama is worn. Along with this outfit it is common to wear boots like the 1920’s era rather than the more traditional sandals.
