Yasukuni shrine on top of Kudankita

When the cherry blossoms fall from the trees many people pay a visit to Yasukuni shrine, showing respect to those who dedicated their precious lives to their homeland.

Compared with most Shinto shrines, which were founded hundreds of years ago, the dedication of the Yasukuni shrine was a relatively recent affair. According to Shinto religion, humans are transformed into kami or deities when they die, and as such, are worshipped by their descendants.
