Despite its name, the station is not located in Shinagawa ward. Shinagawa is also commonly used to refer to the business district around the station. This station is just south of a large yard complex consisting of Shinagawa Carriage Sidings, Shinagawa Locomotive Depot, and Tamachi Depot. Upper levels of high rise buildings show the trains going in and out of the station and offer a view of the Tokyo cityscape at night that extends to the Tokyo Tower and beyond.
Notes
Shinagawa station site sits on crumbling ruins of the Takanawa Embankment for a railway dating to the Meiji Era (1868-1912). The site was unearthed in 2019 and the preservation of historically important traces presented challenges for the development in this special economic zone
