Hibiya Park opened in 1903 as the first Western-style park in Japan. Hibiya Matsumotoro restaurant opened at the same time. It soon gained a reputation as a stylish restaurant, and it became very popular among Mobo (modern-boys) and Moga (modern-girls) who liked to dress up and eat curry and drink coffee. Matsumotoro stood natural disasters, riots and war and it still serves it signature curry in the present times.
Notes
Hibiya Park is located on the spot where the palace of a powerful feudal lord once stood. You can still see the stone walls from the Edo period and also part of the moat, which today is a pond where gazelles, herons and ducks come to rest.
