Kiyomizu hall from under hill

Spring

The original Pine tree was destroyed in a typhoon in the Meiji Era. Due to the popularity of the view with Kiyomizu Hall, in the Ueno Park there was an effort taken to restore the Pine trees unique formation. Not many artists today can create that healthy circular formation today but, after many efforts, the Moon Pine was recreated in 2012.

Notes

The Kannon hall is designated a national important cultural property. It is one of the few buildings of the ancient Kan’eiji temple complex to have survived the 1868 Battle of Ueno, a devastating clash between troops loyal to the shogunate and forces led by the Satsuma and Chōshū domains.
