The exhibition brings together 34 photographs, including 10 diptychs, drawn from the broader Tokyo Hyaku series — an ongoing visual exploration of Tokyo through fragments of everyday life, architecture, atmosphere, and human presence. Rather than documenting the city through iconic landmarks alone, the project approaches Tokyo as a layered and evolving landscape shaped by repetition, memory, detail, and coexistence between historical traces and contemporary urban life. Through juxtaposition and visual rhythm, the diptychs create dialogues between spaces, textures, and moments that reveal multiple temporalities existing simultaneously within the city.
The title Edo–Tokyo references the historical continuity between the ancient city of Edo and present-day Tokyo, reflecting the project’s interest in how traditional aesthetics, urban density, and contemporary visual culture intersect in everyday environments.
The exhibition is part of the OFF circuit of Fotografia Europea, one of Italy’s major photography festivals, which each year transforms Reggio Emilia and its surrounding territories into a platform for international photographic research and visual storytelling. The opening event will also include introductory remarks and a public gathering in dialogue with the local community and the wider Fotografia Europea network.
